Nutrition, Suffering and Art Galleries

When my daughter and I lived in Portland, Oregon we started a new regime consisting of raw foods, natural organic juice and exercise.  We purchased three varieties of organic juices in our favorite colors: green, orange and red.  The green juice proved to be less inviting in taste than its color might suggest.  After reading the list of ingredients fourteen times, certain we overlooked ‘grass clippings’, my daughter and I reached the conclusion that labeling laws pertain only to manufacturers of delicious, chemically-enhanced products.  The orange-colored organic juice might lend itself to believing you are imbibing in Mimosas, but the ill-effect of the orange tint (which leaks into the skin’s pigment) tends to repel people, so we were not invited to many Champagne brunches.  This was actually a positive, (those rose-tinted lenses….well orange-ish) as there are no brunch items served raw, unless you eat the garnish.  The red juice was saved for last, as this was sure to be delightful, but sadly, it tastes exactly like tomato juice; which, without the blessing of vodka, is a complete waste of time.  Is vodka organic?

As we were walking off the non-existent calories, my daughter and I came across an art gallery promoting the upcoming showing of Cubism. The two of us concluded we could put our organic juices to better use by donating them to the art gallery, sadly, they declined our generous offer….so we decided to create paintings made from organic materials……these too were declined.  Never one to ignore synchronicity and certain the universe was strongly advising us to decline the raw food regime; we turned, both figuratively and literally, into a Starbuck’s.  Well…when the universe is whispering caramel macchiatos, it would be considered bad form to ignore this sage wisdom.
